What is this?

Welcome to the Squidoo Superheroes Project blog.
This is the secret (kind of) companion blog to the Superheroes Project Challenge we’re running on Squidoo for the next few weeks.

About the Challenge
We’ve invited some of our top lensmasters and favorite bloggers to join us in this challenge for charity.

Make 5 lenses, in 2 weeks, about 5 of your everyday superheroes. People who have inspired you, mentored you, changed the way you see the world. People you want to profile and dedicate a page to, as a big loud public THANKS. Could be about anyone from your mom to Bono or Alice Waters or your Art History professor or Zig Ziglar or David Wright or your little brother.

Everyday people inspire. The person who makes dinner for the family every night can be as inspiring (maybe even more so!) than someone donating a million dollars to charity. Superheroes come in many forms (and capes!) Who do you know who is unsung and deserves some of the limelight.

This is this like an Acknowledgments project. A way to say thanks. A way to make sure your superhero gets the credit and recognition she deserves.

And, of course, along the way, you’re making pages that automatically donate royalties to charity.

Think about it. If just 1000 people make 5 lenses in 2 weeks for charity, that’s 5,000 lenses that will earn $5 here, $20 there for charity, month in and month out, for free. Now that adds up.

What do I win?
You mean, besides feeling good about making a page about your heroes, besides setting up a page that earns money for charity month in and month out, for free? Oh, okay. Well, the 5 cleverest, most creative, most sincere lenses will also win $500 for the charity of their choice, as well as a coveted spot as Squidoo Lens of the Day.

Deadline?
July 1, 2008. Get cracking. Start your first Superhero lens here.

Who is behind this project?
This is just one of the many brainchildren of the team at Squidoo.com. The Superheroes Project is being run by Anne Reidy, Nonprofit Organizer at Squidoo. But most importantly, by hundreds of Squidoo’s top lensmasters.
